First days of preschool

I debated what post to put on here first and figured that some of you (read Angie) would be upset if I didn't talk about the kids first few days of day care/preschool. So here it is. (Disclaimer -- no pics yet. I did take one the first day, but I haven't put it on my computer yet)

Bright and early Monday morning (6:30) Erin and I woke up two very sleepy kids. Having gone to the Cardinal game the night before and not having a nap in the afternoon, they were still beat. We got everyone dressed and out the door on time. Yeah!

We walked into the school and found out (as suspected) Isaac would still be in the toddler class, until he is potty trained. He was allowed to stay with Kalista for a bit while everyone was arriving though. This I think was good news to him, since at this point he was looking at me as if to say "What is this place, and you aren't really aren't leaving me here are you?"

Erin and I got out the door before I started crying, but I was a least strong in front of the kids. We had been told we could call during the day and check on them, but neither of us had time. After school we arrived back at the center and Kalista ran right up to us, excited to tell all about her day. We found Isaac's room and got a report from his teacher. Both kids had slept during nap time (Kalista has not fallen asleep since, but still rests), Isaac pottied many times on the potty, and also ate well.

Now the info many of you are waiting for. . . How did Kalista do at lunch. . . As we were walking to the car I asked her what she had for lunch that day. She grabbed my hand, very excited, and said "MOM! Guess what! They let me throw my food away!" She was so happy and excited! I think I have discovered why she was so worried about going to school last week. I think she thought that she would be stuck at a lunch table not able to leave until she ate, or that she would be forced eat a "yucky" food. Once those fears were relieved, preschool became a great place again! So the next question you are all asking. . . What did she eat? On Monday she had applesauce and a few crackers. . . Tuesday she told me (again very excited) that they had had Doritoes for lunch!(and hot dogs, that of course she wouldn't eat), but she did have a banana at snack time. Today applesauce was offered again. So she is not starving, but really hungry when she comes home! She has decided that she has to get used to the smells of the new foods before she can eat them. I asked her how long that would take and she claims she needs to smell it four times. . . I'm not sure what this is all about, but we'll see!

Stay tuned for more stories from our week (My new library is still not ready to be moved into, so the rest of this week will be interesting!).
